This year’s major recipient will be Resilient Youth Australia, who target vulnerable youth through their school online surveys and then recommend programs that teach can kids how to build up their resilience. An excellent preventative programme.

Resilience Youth Australia (RYS) are a charitable institution working in the not for profit sector to build resilience in young people. As the Charity Partner of Sally’s Ride, Resilient Youth Australia are currently working with 6 Launceston schools (Connect 6) to survey their students with an internationally validated “resilience survey”, and to co-host Community meetings in local areas.

The Resilience Survey asks questions about youth assets, relationships, mental health, hopefulness, risk and protective factors.

RYA have been working with the team at Sally’s Ride as our selected charity partner as both of us are committed to working towards giving our young people the best start in life. With the partner support from Sally’s Ride and The Rotary club of Central Launceston, Resilient Youth Australia is offering to survey and work with as many schools as come forward. There is no cost to the school.

Analysis of the survey results, discussion of options for action, and the development of a strategy plan aimed at building the resilience and reducing the incidence of depression in young people.

RYA is developing a working partnership with the University of Tasmania for deeper analysis of the important data sets being collected.

Sally’s Ride is delighted with the results to date of their partnership with RYA.
